The images could have been more visually cohesive but they do demonstrate the spectacular nature of the sea. One thing that is similar in the images is that everything seems large and almost surreal.

The warm colours in the image create a sense of tranquility in what was probably an exhilarating experience. Nicklen has managed to capture the whale at exactly the right moment to create this image. The water droplets rushing off the tail help with the sense of scale, and make the viewer aware of how vast the scene is.

These girls are two sisters and a cousin in Hawaii about to surf just before dawn. Instead of taking the image closer up, he has decided to make the photograph wider, which again contextualizes the image.
